“On a Matter of Mentality” is an exploration into a subject that is near and dear to my heart: mental health. This capstone project for the Minor in Writing encompasses my personal life experiences, my intellectual curiosities, and engages in a greater conversation that is too often ignored. Through interviews of personal accounts, unfolding my own experiences, and outside research, this project aims to take a deeper look into the stigma attached to mental health disorders and the people who suffer from them. More specifically, I delve into the origins of stigma, and uncover various paradoxes that occur when attempting to alleviate these harmful ideologies and mentalities. This project reveals just how complex an issue mental health stigma is, and how difficult a problem it is to relieve.
