For this repurposed assignment, we were instructed to take a piece of writing we had produced in a previous class, and change the audience. I decided to repurpose with a personal statement I had written in a professional writing class, which was a small, 300-word piece about my desire to be a casting director. Aiming the piece at people who may hire me was extremely limiting in what I could say about how I came to this dream. I decided to change the audience of this piece to someone who may have had a similar experience as a performer who wanted something different, or to someone who is trying to make a decision such as the one I did a few years ago. Writing this memoir was an eye-opening experience, for I had never thought this critically about my past before. It took a lot of re-working, and introspective thinking to complete. I hope you can either relate to my contemplation in some way, or at least feel the honesty in my voice as I try to articulate the full picture of why I chose the path I did. Enjoy!
