My first assignment for this class was to produce a "Why I Write" essay. This was the most challenging project for me to complete. I had never been asked this before, and therefore had never spent time thinking about my motivations to write. Of course, there are the superficial reasons such as "because I am told to", but that alone did not explain the affordances writing provided. After completing my first draft of this essay, I still would not have been able to clearly tell you "why I write". With each draft of this paper, I discovered new things about my motivations. As I asked myself more questions, and further explained things trying to say, it was then that I began to understand my true motivation for writing. This paper helped me learn a lot about myself, and I hope you find it as insightful as I did.
